The Minister of Education has expressed outrage over the position the Governing Board of the Achimota School has taken in the Rastafarian case – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said it is not in the place of the board to take such a decision on behalf of the school.
His comments comes after the Achimota school board directed their lawyers to appeal the ruling of the High court to admit the two Rastafarian students.
“I am very surprised, the Board cannot take that unilateral position to go back to court”, Dr. Adutwum said.
”Boards of High Schools are constituted by the Minister. Instructions for the running of the schools are provided by the Director General of the Ghana Education Service,” he added.
The High court ruled that the Achimota School with immediate effect, should admit the two students who they earlier refused to admit because of the hair they kept. Adutwum stated that the Ministry and management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) will soon come out on the way forward.
