NIA suspends it’s operations at Regional and District Offices

The NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY in a press release on 1st July 2021, suspends it’s operations in all REGIONAL and  DISTRICT Offices temporarily across the country.

The Offices according to release will be reopened to the general public as soon as they are done employing permanent staff to handle various portfolios.

This came after the The National Identification Authority (NIA) announced the opening of the offices on 2nd June that, pending the recruitment of permanent staff for its Regional and District offices, it has engaged temporary staff for the month of June 2021 only, to facilitate the opening of the offices and the issuance of Ghana Cards to Ghanaians who registered but did not receive their cards during the mass registration exercise.

The temporary staff also engaged in public education and community sensitization to foster awareness of the locations, functions and services of the offices.

The temporary staffs for the various Regional and District offices include :

District Team Lead responsible for general supervision and community sensitization;

A Registration Officer responsible for card sorting and retrieval;

A Card Issuance Officer responsible for the biometric and electronic issuance of the cards.

The NIA I the 2nd June announcement reiterates that this temporary staff engagement is for one month only, and the contract does not constitute permanent employment or the assurance of permanent employment with NIA.

 

For the avoidance of doubt, the recruitment process for the appointment of qualified persons for NIA’s offices is still underway and will be made in accordance with established principles and procedures for staff recruitment into the public services of Ghana.

The NIA however urged the general public to cooperate with the temporary staff assigned to the respective Regions and Districts for effective service delivery during the month of June 2021.

“The National Identification Authority (NIA) announces for the information of the general public that, effective 1° July 2021, it has temporarily suspended operations at its Regional and District offices pending the completion of recruitment of permanent staff-a process being assisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Office of Head of Civil Service (OHCS).

Applicants who could not go to the Regional and District offices for their cards before the suspension will have the cards issued to them when the offices are re-opened for business,

NIA registration will continue at all thirty-four (34) branches of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Registrar General Department (RGD) nationwide where NIA has co-located its services.

Thank you.”

Note that, Other NIA registration activities such as card replacement, personal data updates and registration of Ghanaians aged 15 years and above for the Ghana Card will commence in July 2021.
