Appeal For Promotion Examination Centre In North Tongu District_ Open Letter To NTED

A concerned teacher writes an open letter to North Tongu Education Directorate.

Dear Madam,

I have observed with much worry the sufferings that teachers in North Tongu go through when it comes to promotion to senior ranks of ADI ADI etal.

The National Teaching Council ( NTC) as part of it’s core mandates is to organize promotion exams and Interviews for teachers who are qualified to attain such grades across the country of which teachers in North Tongu are not exempted.

For whatever reason, teachers in the North Tongu District have been placed under Hohoe District. For that matter they have to travel all the way to Hohoe to participate in the promotion exams- a situation I have no adjective to discribe than insensitivity and inconsiderate.

First, let’s talk about the stress these teachers go through travelling on the poor road network from their station to Hohoe for their exams. I do not think we need a soothsayer to tell us the fatigue that engulf these teachers before arriving at the exam centre. A sound mind they say, dwells in a sound body.

In addition, let’s think of the skyrocketing cost of transportation today. Teachers in the district are made to bare avoidable costs for their promotion exam while others walk to sit in the exam center in the comfort of their District. This is not fair to say the least.

Not only that, one may also consider the risk involved in transportation, putting the lives of these group of teachers in jeopardy. I can go on and on.

If you ask for my opinion as a concerned teacher, I wish
to use this platform to appeal to The North Tongu Education Directorate to as matter of urgency collaborate with NTC to open a Centre closer to us (The three Tongu Districts), preferably at Sogakope to help alleviate the challenges enumerated above.

I will be glad if something is done about the situation. Looking forward to a positive turn in events. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Dzisenu A. Clifford
