PRESS RELEASE:GHANA SCHOOL OF LAW STUDENTS'(SRC)

GHANA SCHOOL OF LAW STUDENTS’ REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)

9th November, 2022F

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1. The SRC has taken notice of various media publications claiming that, students of the Ghana School of Law have been directed to submit their social media handles for monitoring.

2. Headlines read as follows:

“Law School Directs Students to Submit Social Media Handles for Monitoring” – www.myjoyonline.com “Provide Your Social Media Accounts- Law School to Monitor Students” – www.3news.com

3. The SRC wishes to state that, no such directive has been given to any student by the Management of the Ghana School of Law.

4. The alleged statement by the Director of the Ghana School Law made at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the new SRC Executives was a reiteration of general caution to the student body to abide by the school’s code of conduct within and outside the school including social media platforms, as Management seeks to ensure that majority of qualified students are called to the Bar each year.

5. The SRC shall only seek the interest of students in all matters.

6. The SRC wishes to congratulate the over 840 students who will be called to the bar on Friday 11th November 2022. This number is an indication of an enhanced training system at the Ghana School of Law and a testament that the School and the General Legal Council whilst ensuring the quality of legal training will do nothing to restrict access to the School or to the Bar.
